Black History Month celebrations at the Museum!

On Saturday 19 October, Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery  celebrated Black History Month to the rhythm of 20 African djembe drums!

During the past two Saturdays, a group of children together with their parents have been learning how to play drums, African style under the watchful eye of professional drum teacher Sarah Westwood. The climax of the workshops was a 15 minute performance in the Museum’s Yellow Gallery. The group gave a performance which certainly showed off their new found skills! Oh yes, it was loud too!

A big thank you to all our participants for making it a very special day.Drumming up fun!

Black History Month is an annual national celebration which aims to promote and celebrate Black contributions to British society and foster an understanding of Black history in general.
