The museum team won the Achievement of the Year at the Managing Director’s Award Ceremony. We received the award for achieving Accreditation after a long period when the museum was short staffed. I know that we were all really happy to achieve accredited status and it was lovely to have our work acknowledged at the ceremony today!
Five of us went over to the ceremony which was held in the Town Hall Chamber. We had our picture taken with the Managing Director Alan Franks and then another with the Mayor and the Leader of the Council.
The Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums. To qualify museums must meet standards on how they are managed, for the services they offer and how they care for collections. Application is by invitation and the museum must provide evidence of their work including feedback from users. The application is independently assessed and then considered by a panel of experts. On the award, the museum was particularly praised for its forward plan which they felt was well informed by user consultation.
