I’m delighted to say it was a full house for our Lunchtime Talk on Friday 15 June. Three National Service veterans joined me for a very entertaining hour of reminiscence and story swapping on life in the armed forces. Ron, Ray and Doug helped me keep the talk on track whilst providing some humorous and occasionally poignant stories along the way. Thank you to Ron, Ray and Doug and everyone who attended. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
The talk complimented our current exhibition on National Service entitled ‘Bedbox, Blanco & Boots’. Visitors can view the experiences of local of local people who took part, or were affected by National Service using original testimony, photographs and film. The exhibition runs until 22 July and is definitely not to be missed!
For those who would like to know even more about National Service there is a further opportunity to join in! Join me at the Museum on Sunday 24 June between 2pm to 4.30pm where I will be marking National Service Memorial Day. Accompanying me will be local army veteran Mike Lynch and we will be inviting visitors to get ‘hands on’ with a selection of National Service related objects.
